This original, antique white bowl, which measures 14 and one-half inches diameter at the outside edges, is in nearly perfect condition. It was produced at the Kiln Croft works, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, UK. The year would have to be previous to 1892, the year this particular company ceased to exist. While in operation, H. Burgess produced white granite-ware mostly for American and Canadian markets. This bowl bears the Royal Arms with the Lion and Unicorn, the monarch's motto, the company name and the place: Burslem. The Royal Arms may only be used by companies that have been granted a Royal Warrant. This particular warrant would have to have been granted by Queen Victoria, as it was produced during her reign. Therefore "Victorian" really describes more the time period of production rather than a "style". This piece is virtually without flaw: there are no cracks or chips, no crazing or other issues with the glaze, with the exception of what may be one tiny pinhole from firing. I'm not sure it's not just an imperfection in the original bisque. There are no stains or discolorations. There is very minimal scratching on the floor of the bowl, and two very small rough spots (pictured) on opposite sides of the edge of the bowl, from the original firing. It is 4 3/4 inches tall.
